A Christian Life

Welcome!

Welcome!

This is my new personal site. Here I’ll be sharing my story, my thoughts, my ideas and my faith.

A bit of my story

I’ve a long story which I’ll share in stages later, but for now, a round up of why this is here now.

I’ve been a Christian since 3rd November 1999. I learned a lot in the first few years as I read the bible from cover to cover multiple times and listened to teachings and sermons, and took advice on who to listen to and who not to listen to. I looked to those who seemed to know. And I gained a greater understanding of God, Jesus and the Bible. Did it help me? Yes and no! I know this may shock some and yet I know other who’ll be the same!

I studied more, sought the truth and yet what I found just did sit right. And for many years I did nothing about it. A few years back, there was an incidence where I had to go back to the Bible, to scripture and look again, for myself. I was listing to a sermon when the preacher used a verse out of context. I don’t know whether it was intentional or not, it matter not now.

Questions

From this came the question: what else have I been taught and I haven’t checked for myself, I’ve just taken it as the right (correct) understanding of scripture from the pulpit? “We stand of the shoulders of the great men of faith of the past” was often declared. Had they always got it right?

One of the questions I often asked was “why don’t we see the healings of the New Testament now-a-days?”. The stock answers were: We’re not spiritual enough (like in India or China); or Is it God’s will to heal, is there a learning in this time of suffering? Not good enough as neither line up with scripture.

So back to trying to understand scripture, God, Jesus and where is this abundant life? Where is the “All these thing you will do and greater”?

At this point other things were happening which I talk about in another post.

New teachings & a new understanding

Then some new friends suggested listening to some preachers they had been listening to. So I researched them on line (as one does) and a whole lot of negative reviews came back. I chatted with my wife about it. And we decided that if they have the fruit of what we were looking for then they’d be worth listening to, even if we reject them later.

We listen to them unpack the Bible in a way we hadn’t heard before. They taught about healing, and they see the fruit, people are healed, raised from the dead!

Unlearning to relearn

And so the time of unlearning to relearn began. And an amazing journey with God this has been. We are beginning to see the fruit of the spirit in our lives and of those around us. Praise God.

And this is why I’m here. To share what God is doing in our lives and those around us. To encourage you not to be a passive – stand on the by line – christian, but a mobilised passionate Christian with the power of God working through you, for His glory.
